Stay In Your Own Lane

Tom and I continue to work online with clients around the world from Denmark and the UK, to further afield in Sri Lanka and the US, predominantly helping them with their weight loss, but most importantly health journey.
We support them daily with accountability, workouts, education and inspiration. We keep things simple and achievable, and the results that everyone has enjoyed so far have been everything they wanted (and more), but it’s inevitable that they will compare themselves to the next person.
It’s hard not to, isn’t it?
Someone close to you getting all the results, making minimal effort compared to you; meanwhile, you’re pulling out all the stops, being so careful with your nutrition, saying no to things you deep down would really like to eat, you’re exercising, you’re feeling better, but the progress feels slow, or someone else’s feels comparatively fast!
Today’s article is your gentle reminder to stay in your own lane. Focus on YOUR own goals – whether that’s in fitness, body shape, house, car …. you name it.
If you have some weight to lose and that’s your goal, then work on that and ignore the lady or man next to you who can eat whatever she wants and doesn’t even exercise.
If you are looking to increase your muscle mass, then focus on building muscle slowly and ignore the guy in the gym benching 100kg for reps.
Work hard on YOU and where you are and never compare yourself to others.
Easier said than done, right?
The problem with when you compare yourself to others is that there is always someone that has more in every aspect of your life and you can make yourself feel inadequate, and inadequacy doesn’t fuel our best selves.
Someone will always have more money, more success, a child that is more studious or well mannered, a tidier house, a better career or a leaner body.
The grass always looks greener.
Whatever it is in life you have, work on being the best version of YOU and don’t compare yourself to others.
You have to remember, it’s just grass.
You are better than everyone else in the room at so many things; be kind to yourself and remember that “Comparison is the thief of joy”.
Einstein said it right…
“Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid”.
You have no idea about another person’s story or how or what they have done to get them to where they are now.
Run your own race.
Work hard on what you have and what you want in life and be grateful for every step of the way.
Be the best version of YOU that you can be.
I came across this quote the other day, and both my husband and I really enjoyed it.
“True happiness is being happy with what you already have, where you’re already at, and not wanting for anything more.”
This isn’t to say we shouldn’t have goals or strive to be better, nor does it mean we shouldn’t surround ourselves with people that inspire us – we all need someone to admire and to aspire to, but don’t ever feel inadequate around anyone for any reason.
Have an amazing day.
